The band were truely AWESOME - they really made our wedding day so special and personal - somehow Martin managed to get everyone up dancing!! I should have booked a bigger venue!! :0)

Comments:
Thanks to all the band for helping us to celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary and for giving us the opportunity to have our 'first dance'. Martin managed to persuade a lot of people to join in, including an initially not-so-enthusiastic 19-year-old to a 60-year-old Thai!
Thanks also for helping our daughter's band's sound check for their interval set. I know they were all very appreciative.
Finally, thank you Martin for clearing up the mystery of where my son and I recognised Ruth, the flautist, from.
We will definately recommend you to anyone who asks.
Kind regards, Alison and Gary

Amazing!
Comments:
Candleford played at our very snowy wedding on 18th December. They managed to get to our re-arranged venue despite heavy snow and all the logistical problems that represented. We were very impressed not only by the way they performed but also the very fact that they got there when so many of our guests were stuck and had to turn back! It was certainly a wedding to remember!

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Helen & Andrew, many thanks for taking the time to write here!

This was definitely the closest we've ever come to not performing for clients, but despite all the odds, we were absolutely delighted to get there (eventually) and do what we do best!

Martin and I had the furthest and most tenuous journeys, further complicated by the fact that our main PA and subsystems were unobtainable as their storage lockup was frozen and inaccessible!

Special kudos to Frances and Caroline who led the tunes for the first time ever! Baptism by snow! :)

Thanks to the entire band. The music was excellent and most of the guests danced to the end. Even a few people that I thought would never give it a go.

All of the dances are explained really well but we obviously have some simpletons in our family as they were all over the shot!

I could not recommend these guys enough; they even helped out with the PA system for the speeches

Thanks again

Three different friends recommended Candleford having seen you at different events, so I thought you would be good. Despite this, my expectations were exceeded! We had such a fun night with the dancefloor full to capacity throughout. As it was a fundraising event it was important that it be a success and Martin, you especially were very professional, kind and helpful before and during the evening. We have had lots of positive feedback, with all bar none saying what a great band you were. The atmosphere and success of the night was mainly down to you guys. I am so grateful to you all. See you again soon.

Thanks for being so accomodating with timings and helping with the announcements during the event. I am really grateful for your professional attention and enthusiasm.
Thanks so much again, best wishes to all your Candleford people! Becky

Did you have a great time?
Definitely
Comments:
Thanks to you all at playing our wedding reception on the 23rd of May. All who attended had a great time, particularly commenting on how good the Band was.
You played my sisters wedding in 2001 and it was due to this we decided on having you at our own wedding...rather than a DJ.
So often at weddings only a couple of people are up dancing, but with the Candleford band the dancefloor was full for each and every dance.
I am sure many people think that the Barn Dance (and all other dances that you play) need prior knowledge on how to do it...but with Martin's instructions and prompting you could even have two left feet!
If anyone is looking for a different type of music, where they want everyone of all ages to get up and dance and join in, then this Band is the one to book...they've even now been booked for my parent's 40th wedding anniversary in September!
Thanks again for the great music.

Comments:
We had a fantastic time. Our family have used Candleford 3 times now and been to another party they were playing at. They have always been fabulous and our wedding night was no exception.

When we were planning the wedding, we were telling people that the evening entertainment was going to be a Ceilidh band there were a lot of scepticle faces. BOY DID THEY HAVE THEIR VIEWS CHANGED! At the end of a very long and very enjoyable evening EVERYBODY said how good the band were.
We hope the band enjoyed plaing in such a nice venue as much as we all enjoyed partying in it!

Sorry that it has taken me nearly a year to write this...... better late than never!

There is only one thing to ask guys........ when are you going to get a CD together of your music?!?!?! We can almost gurantee getting you some sales!

Keep up the good work guys and once again a very big thankyou

It's a small world! I learned about Candleford when visiting Warwick's parents who are family friends. Warwick popped in to say hi and we got chatting. At the time, we were looking for a band to play at our Burns Night party - and Candleford were available that night. Martin was exceptionally enthusiastic and the arrangements were very slick.

The band did not disappoint. For a bunch of Burn's Night virgins, we thoroughly enjoyed learning the dance routines and the music was superb. Martin was an excellent caller and our guests were relaxed and comfortable, although not the greatest dancers. I would highly recommend Candleford and thanks to the band for a great Burn's Night.

Hi Martin,

This is just to say a huge "thank you" to you and the band for a fantastic evening at Cunningham Hill Junior School on Saturday night. The feedback has been tremendous. Everyone who came said they had a ball and those who chose not to come wished they had! Everyone I spoke to said that they hadn't laughed that much in ages and they found muscles in their faces that they didn't realise existed!! The music was brilliant and the combination of that and your calling got everyone, even the die-hards, up and dancing. I've had a few people already asking for the band's details and I'm delighted! I also wanted to thank you for drawing the raffle as that isn't one of my favourite jobs. At our PTA meeting last night everyone agreed that they want to do it again next year - how much notice do you need for us to pencil in a date, possibly 11th October 2008?

Many thanks again for a most memorable evening.

Elaine Hoffman
Chair CHJS PTA

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
We had a fantastic evening too - I especially remember the homemade ice-cream! Luvverly ...

As for how much notice we need, it's more a case of getting in early with an enquiry (which you have now done) - it means that we will enter the date in our WebCalendar now and, if in the future any other prospective client asks of our availability for that evening, we will not enter into negotiations until we have contacted you in order to check your status. Hope that helps?

Anyway, assuming the event will most likely go ahead next year, how are you now going to find room for all the extra bodies? There wasn't any spare room at the last one!! ;-)

Please pass on our thanks and regards to your committee – having a successful ceilidh is a reciprocal thing and we are just the catalyst! In order to find more room for the next one I now have expectations that you will clear enough space for the band in the storage area (or whatever is behind those screens in the hall)?! Just joking ...

We attended a friend's surprise 60th birthday party last Saturday and heard the band for the very first time. I was thrilled from the first few notes you played. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the dancing. Do you ever have gigs in the Harrow area?
Doreen

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
Doreen - we really appreciate hearing that you both had a great time at the party and equally, we enjoyed the responses from a very warm crowd; got well-fed and well-watered; had a blast playing on a decent-sized stage in a nice venue - everything was perfect!
To answer your question about Harrow, we're willing to travel far and wide to entertain people (and it's easy from St Albans), but I anticipate you're also asking if we perform at or organise public functions in that area? If so, we rarely perform publicly as the vast majority of our clients are those organising wedding or birthday celebrations or corporate events - have you an opportunity to organise a social evening for lots of energetic friends? We'll be very happy to quote ...

Dear Martin - a huge thank you to you and the band for helping to make my 50th Birthday Party such a success.

We really enjoyed the evening and the response from our friends has been fantastic. Everyone who has thanked us for the evening has said how brilliant you all were; all the children who weren't going to dance or enjoy the evening are now saying what a 'wicked' time they had!!

I hope we all meet up again sometime so we can enjoy your music once more.

Very best wishes.

Guestbook Administrator's Comment:
It's really satisfying to go out, play and be appreciated - thank you!
We're particularly glad you all enjoyed Martin's repertoire; spare a thought for the rest of us though as we've now witnessed it at least a gazillion times...! :o))
I don't know if it will ever happen that we make the time to organise a local public ceilidh in St Albans and invite friends such as yourselves at moderate cost. We perform for so many people in the area, it seems feasible that we might attract a large crowd - food for thought and further discussion perhaps?
Best regards, Gadge

Dear All,
Thank you so very much for your fabulous contribution towards our wedding on Saturday - getting Classical musicians dancing is no mean feat!! We had a truly brilliant time and hope yours wasn't made too hard by a stroppy bride refusing to even "sway waltz"!!!
We do apologise for the lack of food at the allotted time however. I was very aware and worried, that you'd come so far and had to be very hungry. It was the one job that I delegated - if we have a 1st anniversary party (we're saving now!) and you are able to play, I'll make sure that I organise your sustenance myself!!
However, you were very much appreciated and enjoyed and I hope you felt it was worth the drive.
Thank you again for all your help and for making our evening - you are without doubt THE BEST !!
With very best wishes,
Becky & Rupert

Thanks Becky! We had a GREAT time and the distance was no problem - another fine adventure, including the wet'n'windy stroll we had on the pebble beach (whilst you were finishing the speeches)! The food was excellent (despite being delayed) - yes, we'd love to play for you again...!

Martin !! Just a quick note to thank u and yr team for the fantastic music on Saturday (31/5/03).
The minstrels were good - the ceilidh was excellent and enjoyed by all. Looking at bits of video I took and comments from people, the "in between" music was very well received (you said the band couldn't do "in between" stuff - you lied)!!
Alternating between dances and "in between" stuff is a perfect combination to suit all tastes and went down well. One or two people wanted less formal dancing and more general music and perhaps a bit more emphasis on the "in between" bits -- might be worth building in to your programme for future events (Pete's marketing tip for the week !!) Not everyone is as fit as they would like to be !!
Thank you again - if you want a VHS copy of the dancing bits please let me know and I'll happily make and send you a copy (including you chatting up that little blonde Jemma near the end of the evening - naughty naughty)!!!!!
The whole day went like clockwork - can't believe the weather -- or that it's all over !!
Best regards, Peter

Thank you Martin for making our 15th anniversary so brilliant (14/10/2000); please pass on our thanks to the rest of the band as well. A large group of us met in the pub on the following day and the general consensus was that you were an excellent caller and the band was excellent too!
We intend to repeat the whole thing in 10 years time - so keep in touch and consider yourselves booked!
Many, many thanks again.
